Public DNS is live

Posted on February 24th, 2012 by Callum

Recently at Squared Logic we have been working on a new service, Public DNS. This is our free, 100% UK based DNS resolution service that is designed to offer completely clean responses and always respond quickly.

What is DNS?

DNS stands for Domain Name System and translates domains into IP addresses, which uniquely identify servers and computers over the internet. Without DNS you wouldn’t be able to browse the web in the way that you do, the same applies for email. If you aren’t very computer literate you may not have every come across DNS because it is usually dealt with by your internet service provider, who provide it because they have to.

What is the advantage of using Squared Logic Public DNS?

Where your ISP provides DNS as without it customers such as yourself would not be able to properly access the web, this means that it is likely to be slow, and congested, as there will be many customers using it. At Squared Logic we provide our Public DNS service as part of our portfolio, which means we strive to ensure that it is always fast and accessible, regardless of what time of day you’re browsing.

How do I use Squared Logic Public DNS?

If you are a network administrator you may wish to change your gateway’s DNS servers to us so your whole network uses our DNS resolvers, otherwise we recommend that home users change their network adapter settings.

For more information visit public.squaredlogicdns.com where you’ll find our DNS server IP addresses.

Affiliate Program Launch

Posted on January 9th, 2012 by Kieran

We are pleased to announce the launch of our new affiliate system which enables you to earn 50% one-time credit on all sales generated by your unique link.

To active your account either register or login to the client area, then select “Affiliates” in the horizontal navigation bar at the top, you’ll then be able to active your affiliate account and be given your own unique URL which can be used to start generating sales.

When someone clicks your URL, a cookie is placed on their computer so even if they do not decide to immediately purchase anything, it will still count if they come back at a later date.

If for example you were to refer someone and they ordered K1 100MB Managed Hosting worth £5.00 a month, you would earn £2.50 one-time worth of credit which can be used on any service provided by Squared Logic IT Solutions.

To stop abuse of the affiliation system a limit of £5.00 has been set which must be achieved before you are able to withdraw and use your credit.

Announcement System Launch

Posted on December 16th, 2011 by Kieran

We are pleased to announce the launch of our custom-built automated network monitoring and announcement system.

Our aim was to design an automated system which can monitor our infrastructure and inform both the Squared Logic team and clients the minute any problem occur meaning any issues can be dealt with and most importantly, clients won’t be left in the dark.

The public facing side of the system is available to clients via Tumblr and Twitter.

Future plans for the monitoring system include integration with other social platforms as well as Tumblr and Twitter making it easier for clients to stay up-to-date with crucial announcements.

Introducing squaredProtection

Posted on October 30th, 2011 by Callum

At Squared Logic, we’re always coming up with new ideas and ways we can expand our business.

Recently we have been thinking about cloud security, how it is deployed and who it is generally aimed that. Security is something we take very seriously here, as all businesses should. As individuals, we’re both frequently subjected to repairing the average users laptop that has been inundated with viruses and spyware. We started to think how we could offer a cloud-centered product that would be simple to use, cheap for us to maintain thus passing low prices onto our customers and more importantly it needed to be functional.

That is when we had the idea of squaredProtection, which is our latest cloud service we’re currently working on. Firstly we thought how traditional anti-virus and internet security software, it is essentially flawed because the malicious payload is still getting to the average user’s computer, where – if it is detected – it will often be stopped. This requires resources on the local computer and frequent updates, which make traditional anti-virus software packages cumbersome. We aim to change that with squaredProtection, which works by analysing customers’ web traffic in the cloud securely and anonymously, preventing any attacks without the additional overheads. No software is needed, just a small and reversible change to your web browser’s settings to route your web traffic through our secure internet gateways which are running the latest software on the latest hardware with at minimum 100Mbps internet connections to ensure security is no longer a bottleneck. Nothing leaves our UK-based network without being scanned, unless you choose whitelist it. This unique position allows us to block malware, viruses, trojans, worms, phishing attacks and other security related issues.

It will work on a subscription model, which will be automatically billed to customers on a monthly basis. There will be no contracts and there will be the option to cancel at any time.

We understand that because our customers are trusting us with their web traffic, we need to be transparent about how we operate. We have an outstanding record of self security, and we do not log any traffic from our customers. It is as simple as that; it’s not possible for us or anyone else to see what you’re up to online. This is by design, as we understand how important privacy is to everyone. We’ll be publishing more about this in our privacy policy.

Right now we’re working on getting the technical side of things sorted and optimised, and looking forward to a 2012 launch. You can view more information on www.squaredprotection.com
